Today 30th March 2020, aLabs Africa launched CoronaInfo.sl, a new digital information portal designed to provide timely, accurate, and credible updates on the COVID-19 pandemic in Sierra Leone and globally. The platform was developed with the support of aLabs Africa, which provided the space, hosting, and resources for team of local innovators in the hub to bring the solution to life within 24 hours.
CoronaInfo.sl will serve as a central hub for daily updates on confirmed cases, recoveries, deaths, and precautionary/safety guidelines as well as the ability to request for covid test, and report suspected covid cases in communities amongst many of the features and functionalities the system has. All data shared through the platform is sourced from official government and public health channels to ensure accuracy and reliability.
With concerns over misinformation and fake news spreading rapidly during this pandemic, the CoronaInfo portal is expected to play a critical role in keeping the public well-informed and safe. The platform will also provide Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora, and global audience with real-time information on the COVID-19 situation back home in Sierra Leone.
Speaking at the launch, representatives of the project and aLabs Africa emphasized that technology and innovation are key tools in the fight against the coronavirus.
Through this platform which empowers citizens with verified information, Sierra Leone hopes to enhance public awareness and support collective efforts to contain the spread of the virus – inline with government’s and partners effort to fight against the virus
The CoronaInfo.sl platform is now live and accessible to the public at www.coronainfo.sl
